A Look at Oscar De La Renta’s Bridal Style

Oscar de la Renta was a Dominican American fashion designer who rose to the top of the fashion world by dressing celebrities like Jackie Kennedy. He passed away in October 2014, but his fashion house still flourishes, and the Fall 2015 bridal collection is available in our stores! Here’s a deeper look at Oscar de La Renta’s work.   Born on July 22nd 1932, Oscar de la Renta studied painting in Madrid before switching his focus to his true passion: fashion. He landed an apprenticeship with Spain’s most renowned couturier: Cristobal Balenciaga. After moving to Paris in 1961, he was hired at Lavin-Castillo for his first real fashion job. He then moved to New York and joined the American fashion house of Elizabeth Arden.   Oscar de la Renta began his own signature ready-to-wear label in 1965, and started dressing several first ladies, like Jackie Kennedy, Nancy Reagan, Hilary Clinton and Laura Bush, acquiring more fame and recognition in the process. From 1993 to 2002, de la Renta was the designer behind the haute couture collections for the French fashion house Balmain. In 2006, his label diversified into bridal wear.   Oscar-de-la-Renta-Collection-Fall-2015   His pieces are inspired by international women and his line is often identified by delicate silk prints, the use of ruffles, a vibrant color palette and soft silhouettes. Creating a modern and romantic look, de la Renta got women’s vote and approval and his bridal collections are just as romantic and refined as his haute couture line. His signature use of sequins, beading, crystals, ruffles and lace give his bridal and evening dresses a stylish floral and oriental look.   Oscar de la Renta bridal dresses come in all kind of silhouettes, and you will find perfectly shaped ball gowns, mermaid, sheath and A-Line dresses in our stores. Most of the dresses are made with elegant fabric like chiffon, tulle, organza and silk for a perfect fit and an ultimate wedding look. And if you’re a bride who likes standing out, it is not rare to see colorful wedding dresses like blue and pink from this brand.   The wedding dress that personifies the Oscar de la Renta style is definitely the one Amal Alamuddin wore to her wedding with George Clooney in September 2014. The dress was taken from the designer’s last bridal collection before his death, the Fall 2015 bridal line, which focused on lace and vintage-looking dresses.   Oscar-de-la-Renta-Collection-Spring-2016   The Spring 2016 bridal collection marked the debut of designer Peter Copping, who took the house reins. The collection still has the Oscar de la Renta style, but with a touch of Peter Copping’s own twist on lingerie details and short lengths. Copping followed the house codes for the collection and he integrated some styles he took from other brands’ archives like Yves Saint Laurent and Christian Lacroix. Some touches of painter Frida Kahlo were spotted in the styling, mostly integrated in the floral veil toppers.   Oscar de la Renta wedding gowns will always be fresh through the intricate floral designs and the signature style of the late designer.   So how about you?
